R-71 ON PACE TO MAKE BALLOT IN NOVEMBER!

Olympia, WA - August 8, 2009 - Against "insurmountable odds", as some in the media are reporting, we brought 137,689 signatures to Olympia on July 25th for a referendum campaign that had (due to Governor Gregoire's stalling tactics) less than 70 days to mobilize!

The 137,689 signatures provide us with a pad of about 12.4% above the bare legal minimum of 120,577 required to secure a spot on the November ballot.  According to the latest update by the Secretary of State,  35,000 names have now been checked with a total error rate of only 11.51%!

IF WE CAN SUSTAIN THIS VERY LOW 11.51% REJECTION RATE, R-71 WILL BE ON THE BALLOT IN NOVEMBER!

Signature verification began on July 31, and it will take another week to 10 days before the final count is reached.

Currently, we have eight volunteers working day and evening shifts, three at a time, monitoring the State's signature validation process. These committed volunteers are our eyes and ears in Olympia, logging many tedious hours observing the process and doing all they can to insure that the verification process is carried out impartially.  Pastors Roy and Valerie Hartwell have taken the lead on this critical effort and we owe them and the other hard working volunteers many, many thanks!

With less than  100,000 signatures still to count, we anxiously await the final numbers for R-71.  We are encouraging Christians statewide to pray fervently this weekend for the Referendum 71 signature validation effort!

MORE POSITIVE NEWS FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL:

On July 29, 2009, a United States District Court Judge entered an order preventing the Washington Secretary of State from publicly releasing copies of the Referendum 71 petition. The order will remain in effect pending a hearing scheduled for September 3, 2009 on our request for a more permanent ruling. We believe that Washington State citizens should be allowed to debate the merits of Referendum 71 without having to worry about whether they will be harassed by militant homosexual activists for having signed the petition. This ruling is good news for our side and a step in the right direction for Washington State as we seek to bring civility back to the process!

Mission

The mission of the new PAC is to organize the effort to gather the 120,577 required signatures for Referendum 71 by July 25, 2009 to bring the controversial Senate Bill 5688 before the voters of Washington State in November. SB 5688 is a 110 page document which includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.

SB 5688 was packaged and presented to the legislature as a Domestic Partnerships expansion of benefits. In truth, it will demolish the state's historical understanding and definition of marriage as that of uniting a man and a woman for life as Washington State will immediately become subject to litigation by same-sex partners demanding that the courts overturn the Defense of Marriage Act and impose "same-sex marriage" (as happened recently in California prior to Proposition 8).
