Gays to the Anti-71 Camp: "You were Right, This IS about Marriage"
November 18, 2009 - Not that we didn't expect it, but the R-71 campaign was handicapped by the bias of our incredibly liberal and increasingly shameless statewide media complex. Like a mantra, the ACCEPT R-71 campaign's talking points were reflexively repeated by nearly every Washington State newspaper, radio, and TV station. How many times did we hear or read that "SB 5688 and R-71 is not about marriage, but domestic partnerships...period"?
While we live in difficult times, the truth still comes out in the wash. While browsing through R-71 articles posted on the web, I found an honest column written by the other side - printed a week AFTER Election Day, of course.

As we warned during the R-71 campaign, our state's Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is now vulnerable in the courts due to the passage of SB 5688 via R-71. Count on the homosexual lobby to work every possible legal angle to achieve same-sex marriage by judicial fiat in the coming months.
But please take heart my friend. The battle for marriage and family values in Washington State is far from over. Despite University of Washington polls showing overwhelming support for either same-sex marriage or domestic partnerships prior to Election Day on Nov. 3, our opponents barely reached a 53% majority statewide, and would have been soundly beaten were it not for the greater Seattle vote!
The Protect Marriage Washington PAC and the Washington Values Alliance and our allies are more determined than ever to dig in and fight for all that is good and right in our home state of Washington.
With a major referendum drive and an extremely important U.S. Supreme Court case under our belts in less than one year (click here to read syndicated columnist George Will's article on R-71 as appeared in the Washington Post and hundreds of major newspapers across the nation) we have proven our effectiveness on the political battlefield.
We have become the action-based political organization we promised we would. While there are those on our side who seem to have tired of the fight and now openly advocate a full scale retreat on important issues like same-sex marriage, we will continue our efforts to organize, empower, and embolden a genuine conservative political movement!
YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM THE WASHINGTON VALUES ALLIANCE IN THE COMING WEEKS AND DURING THE 2010 LEGISLATIVE SESSION IN OLYMPIA!
Donations to the Washington Values Alliance will be used to help us keep getting the word out statewide and in Olympia on the issues that matter most to the families of Washington State.
We are actively working now to recruit and build a support base for pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-family candidates all across Washington! As we draw closer to the Thanksgiving season, we hope you will consider giving generously to our exciting efforts on behalf of Washington families!
Larry Stickney, President
Washington Values Alliance
